Racing
Jeeps is as old as Jeeps themselves. The twist is,
obviously, that racing a Jeep typically happens off
road. Heck, some might say competition is the heart
of Jeeps.
The
original concept for the Jeep came from a military
competition to design a light utlity vehilce to help
better mobilize the Army. Not quite what we have today
for our Jeeps, but there's a chance this picture planted
the seed in more than a few Jeepers minds...
Here's
some idea of what's out there if competition is your
thing.

Jeep
Speed
Simply
put, Jeep Speed exists as a forum for racing Jeep
Cherokees while keeping costs managable for enthusiasts.
Obviously this is relative. While you "could"
take your XJ out with a minimum of mods - just enough
to ensure it meets safety trequirements - you would
not be very competative.
Jeep
Speed's mission is:
To
create a Jeep off road competition club for safe,
affordable and reliable Cherokee XJ models. The rules
of the vehicle specification are to create equality
and durability while keeping construction cost at
a minimum.
If
you own a Cherokee and like to drive fast in the desert,
JeepSpeed is for you. The rules are in place to allow
enough mods to make a Cherokee a legitimate desert
racer, while still allowing everyday folks a chance
to compete. Lots of folks simply build to the minimum
required for sdafety and go out for the fun of it.

Well,
this one is not for the faint of heart. Skip it, too,
if you're worried you might break something, because
you will. If, however, you want a unique sense of
accomplishment, the thrill of an amazing challenge
and don't mind a team environment, then rock-crawling
may just be your cup of tea.
You're
going to need big tires, lots of armour, a winch and
one heck of a good spotter to help you conquer the
rocks. Casual rockcrawling can be had on just about
any trail ride, but for competitions, the organizers
often look at a place and say "Let's try THAT"...if
they make it even halfway, that's the trail. It's
not quite like that, but it can seem like it.
